Cottage and Small Industries (CSI) constitutes an impressive 95 percent of Bhutan’s industrial output. A standout attribute of CSI industries lies in their remarkable capacity to generate employment opportunities, playing a pivotal role in mitigating income disparities by fostering diverse employment avenues and supporting local businesses. Their robust contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is instrumental in propelling economic prosperity for nations.
Nevertheless, CSI encounters a multitude of challenges, including limited market access and small domestic audiences, constrained financial resources, slow adoption of modern technologies, elevated logistical costs, raw material scarcity, supply chain complexities, intensified competition from foreign imports, workforce retention issues, insufficient incentives, inadequate capital for expansion, stringent standards and certification requirements, and the absence of export-focused infrastructure.
To cater to the requirements of Cottage and Small Industries (CSI) and serve as a unified voice for all CSI entities, the Association of Bhutanese Cottage and Small Industry was established. This organization aims to address the diverse needs of CSI and provide a collective platform for their common interests.
